Iris Photo Booth

Get Free Professional Portraits!

Syracuse University Career Services is pleased to offer free digital professional photos for our undergraduate student community! Through our partnership with the Division of the Student Experience, this self-serve resource provides professional-quality portraits in less than 5 minutes.

  • Students can visit the Career Center anytime during office hours, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—no appointment needed!
  • Our private photo booth features a professional-quality camera and lighting for portraits. Sessions are first-come, first-served, and wait times may be longer during peak hours.
  • Each session includes three free photos, with posing tips for a great professional portrait. The touchscreen booth can also be controlled from your smartphone via QR code.
  • Editing is simple! Limited retouching is available during the session, and additional edits—like teeth whitening, blemish removal, and filters—can be made afterward in your Iris account. If you’re comfortable using Instagram, you’ll have no trouble using the photo booth. You can also retake one photo per session.
  • Use the booth as often as you’d like throughout the semester or academic year.
  • Photos are emailed immediately and remain accessible for up to a year.
  • The photo booth is self-service, but staff is available if you need assistance. For accommodations, email careerphotos@syr.edu to arrange an individualized session.

To strengthen the Division of Student Experience’s Operational Framework and ensure students feel included, connected, and supported both inside and outside the classroom, we have introduced this service for all Syracuse University undergraduate students.

Graduate students can use this service on the remaining Fridays of the Spring 2025 semester from 1–4 p.m.

  • Friday, April 18th
  • Friday, April 25th
  • Friday, May 2nd
  • Friday, May 9th

We encourage faculty and staff to utilize this service during the upcoming summer months.

The photo booth is conveniently located at 111 Waverly Ave., Suite 230, home to Syracuse University Career Services and ‘the Office of Student Employment and ‘CuseWorks.

  1. Check in with the Career Services front desk.
  2. Take a seat and adjust the height using the side lever if needed.
  3. Tap the screen to start and the booth will light up.
  4. Type your Syracuse University email. The navigation screen is touch-sensitive; however, you can also use your phone by scanning the QR code.
  5. Follow or skip the available series of tips to help you take the best picture possible.
  6. Select the 3-second or 6-second timer. Most students have found 3 seconds to be sufficient.
  7. While the timer counts down, look up at the camera (above the screen). Do not look at the screen. Your picture will be taken, and you will instantly see a preview.
  8. Follow the same process and take 2 more pictures (again, you will be prompted with a 3-second or 6-second timer each time).
  9. (Optional) After your last picture, you are welcome to select one picture to re-take.
  10. Touch the “exit” button on the screen.

After completing your session, you will see a progress bar at the bottom of the screen that shows your picture being uploaded to the Iris website.

That’s it! If nobody is waiting in line, you are welcome to start the process over again.

  • There is no need to wait around the booth. You will receive an email from noreply@irisbooth.com within 2-3 minutes after completing your session.
  • Click on the “Get Photos” button in your email and you will be directed to a website to activate an account on the Iris website.
  • Use the same email address that you entered at the booth and create a password.
    • Important: Iris does not integrate with Syracuse’s single sign-on. While you are welcome to use your netID@syr.edu email, do not use your netID password. Come up with a unique password that you have not used for any other account.
  • Upon creating your password, you will be directed to log in to the Iris website.
  • Type in your email and password to view and download your headshots. The website will also provide you an option to edit and retouch your photos before downloading.

  • Iris makes it easy to edit your photos with a high-quality camera, professional lighting, and a neutral backdrop—often requiring minimal adjustments. Editing options include:
    • Cropping & re-centering
    • Teeth whitening (available only on a laptop)
    • Blemish correction (available only on a laptop)
    • Lighting correction
    • Filters (the “Prime” filter is popular for a professional look)
  • While basic edits can be made on your phone, the full suite of tools is available only on a laptop or desktop.
  • Once you’re happy with your photo, you can download it or share it via email. Your images remain on the Iris website for 365 days, allowing you to revisit and edit as needed. You can keep them for future use or delete them anytime—but once deleted, they cannot be recovered.
