On 10/8/24 I was able to attend the Graduate and Law School Fair in Goldstein Auditorium, and The Schine Underground (the first in-person fair since 2019!) The fair went on from 12-4pm, where I was able to stop by in the later half. With 100+ schools, I was able to explore every possible option. Although my interests lie in media studies, everyone was very happy to have a conversation with me and most schools even waived my application fee! I had a conversation with an architectural and structural design graduate school coordinator where she gave me beautiful design books and was able to discuss with me how my personal and professional skills may be used in different graduate programs I never could have thought of.
It was eye-opening to see the vast areas of studies that are available that I have never even heard of before (but deeply researched after). As a first generation student, my knowledge of different education opportunities have been lessened, but going to fairs like these and being able to discuss and learn about different options have greatly helped. Talking to people about the future they can offer you will take you farther than you could ever imagine, as knowledge is the greatest power. Graduate programs and law school are definitely something to look into and stopping by a fair where you can shake someone’s hand and learn what they have to offer (as well as get some goodies) is the best thing you can do for yourself, even if you don’t plan on going to furthering your education anytime soon. Making these connections can lead you to more guidance in applying to schools and connection to many great staff and students at their school. Set yourself up for a great future by taking the time to see what the world has to offer you!
